Our Solutions
The Basic Utility Vehicle is a vehicle for change. It is a simple, rugged, low cost, low weight vehicle that is easy to operate, maintain and repair. Designed for rural off-road areas and heavy payloads, the BUV has high torque and does not require clutch shifting. The rural parts of Africa need a vehicle that is “appropriate” for their geography. Such areas have low population density and vast distances with terrible road conditions. Our aim is to provide a vehicle that is safe yet able to overcome the many obstacles in the African bush.
To serve the rural African market, we have designed a vehicle around the needs of small farmers and local businesses. Our vehicles have the load capacity and durability of a 4×4 pickup, fit for traveling and carrying goods on bumpy dirt roads. Yet they can also operate in the field, pulling a planter or a cultivator. When the durability and lifespan of the vehicle is factored into the acquisition cost, the price of the vehicle (assuming proper maintenance) cannot be beaten.
More than just great vehicles, BUV aims to empower transport entrepreneurs across Africa with the financing and business advice needed to operate a sustainable transport business.
One of the exciting things about the Basic Utility Vehicle is the fact that it was developed from the ground up for the developing world. It is rugged, affordable and easy to operate and maintain. Many vehicle manufacturers offer – or try to offer – vehicles for this market by taking an existing product and removing features and options to achieve a lower price point. The approach is ineffective. The items most important in the developing world such as good gas mileage, ease of maintenance, hauling capacity and the ability to handle the rough terrain…these require a new approach and a new clean-slate design
